Children in Need is coming up next month. In co-operation with Medway Council and both the Howard and Greenacre School Sports Partnerships Shi Kon Martial Arts can put on a very simple but effective event for you.
This requires minimal organization from the school, and no cost:
The children wishing to be involved will need to pick up a sponsorship form from the school office.
We will send in an instructor to your school at your convenience to run a “300 Kung Fu Moves” event, for example as part of an assembly.
When the children have collected their sponsorship money, and given it in to the office Shi Kon will pick it up.
Simples!
We will email the sponsorship forms, promotional posters etc.
For more details and to book (there is no charge) a Shi Kon instructor for the Children in Need event please return email your contact details or call Jez on 01634 581092.

Get involved with Children in Need in MEDWAY
4th October 2010
Tom Dallas the Chatham hevyweight is likely to be one of the special guests attending the Medway BBC Children in Need event on 19th November to support the programme and welcome groups and individuals who have spent time raising funds for this worthwhile charity event.many young people
The Chatham heavyweight recently scored an impressive points win over an awkward opponent Daniil Peretyatko in an entertaining six-round contest.
Dallas, 25, has previously won his last eight bouts inside two rounds found the six
round contest was a useful opportunity to test his stamina beyond earlier fights.
A local resident from Chatham, Tony learnt his skills at St Mary’s Boxing Club
under the direction of Andy Kidd, who still supports him in his professional career.
It is very likely that Tony will be fighting at Medway Park on 20th November
(the next night) so a great chance to meet a local successful athlete.
The programme for the evening is gradually growing and the complete detail will be provided by the beginning of November but continuous updates of programme progress will be found on the website
http://www.mixitonline.co.uk and page link http://www.medway.gov.uk/mixitindex/93922/93949/bbcchildreninneed.htm)
As the programme develops the website will provide immediate links to supporting groups and begin to tell the story about what is being planned before the evening, with special features on the unusual efforts being considered to raise funds for the Charity.
On Saturday 16th October between 1pm and 4pm Cliffe Youth Group are holding a Bric-a-Brac sale at the Memorial Hall, which will include homemade cakes (guess the weight of a cake) raffle, and many other novelty attractions. If you wish to donate something towards the raffle or have some ’bric-a-brac’ to pass on please contact Lindsay Hartney, the Detached Development Youth Worker on 0795236289 or 01634 338741 or E-mail:- .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Better still take time out to visit Cliffe Memorial Hall and support young people’s efforts to raise funds for BBC Children in Need.
The Shi Kon Martial Arts International have already been working hard to promote the event on the 19th November and with help of the Medway Sports Partnerships based at The Howard and Greenacres schools are planning to visit schools throughout the coming weeks to offer an opportunity to raise funds and learn something about their sport.
For further details contact Jez Walters on 01634 581092 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or visit their website http://www.shikon.com
Badminton – Roller Skating – Synchronised Swimming – Drama Workshops – Music Workshops are just a few of the developing options that will be available on the night and further regular bulletins will keep you up to date with these and other developments
What are YOU or YOUR CLUB planning? – Could you feature in the local press or would it capture the imagination of the BBC Children in Need broadcasting team. Lets hear about your plans?

62% of GSSP pupils take part in 3 hours per week of PE and sport
27th September 2010
More children in Medway getting 3 hours per week of PE and sport!
National figures published on Friday show that 52% of young people from across the authority are now getting at least 3 hours of PE and sport per week. This is an increase from 26% in 2008-09. Medway’s two School Sport Partnerships lead by the two sports colleges in the area – Greenacre and Howard Schools, have worked with all Medway schools to raise sports participation over the past 5 years.
New activities, a range of coaches, access to more competitions and a chance to become a sports leader have all played their part last year for getting more young people in Medway schools involved in sport and physical education.
The Greenacre School Sports Partnership has 12 coaches, all linked to local club marked clubs, who have been able to go into the schools and lead sessions alongside teachers. After all this practicing teams were then able to take part in the Medway Games which consists of the Mini Youth Games for primary pupils and the Secondary School Games culminating in the Medway Festival of Sport week. Older students and sixth formers have been trained as sports leaders within their physical education lessons which has allowed for them to umpire and referee at the Medway Games series.
New activities for the schools in the Greenacre School Sports Partnership have included street surfing - also known as snakeboarding, rowers have been available for each of the secondary schools, urban rebounding – fitness with a small trampoline and wake up shake up – an aerobics idea for primary schools each morning have all helped to increase participation and ensure children are having fun while being active.
The Greenacre and Howard School Sports Partnership are working towards ‘The Physical Education and Sport Strategy’, originally set up in 2003 by the Government. To deliver this strategy School Sports Partnerships across the country are raising standards and participation in PE and school sport through; improving community and sports club links with schools, giving students opportunities to lead and volunteer in sport, raising quality and quantity of PE and after school provision, and ensuring ALL pupils have access to competitive opportunities. School Sport Partnerships provide a highly effective and efficient delivery mechanism for school sport. Partnerships are ‘families’ of schools working together. To find out more about what is going on in your school speak to your school sports co-ordinator in your secondary school or your primary link teacher in your primary school.
