She led motivational sessions with groups of disengaged girls - the main aim being to re-ignite their interest in sport and how they can become involved, either through their own performance, umpiring or leadership. Girls were said to have left the session 'buzzing', and some teachers were inspired too! A full report will be available after the next sessions on 27th May

Students introduced to hockey
Thursday 5th May 2010
The first Quick Sticks Festival finally got underway at Thomas Aveling School on the morning of 5th May. The students arrived at the school bright and early, all very excited about the activity that lay ahead of them and all eager to get involved in the many challenges that were being delivered by Young Leaders from the Thomas Aveling School. These challenges lasted approximately 15 minutes each and involved the participants scoring goals, passing accurately between cones, moving the ball in different directions around obstacles and dodging around other players. By the amount of cheering and laughter that came from the groups I think it would be fair to say that a lot of fun was being had!
After the ‘Challenges’ had been completed, all the students took part in a mini tournament, where the teams all played each other. This was very exciting, the players all showing their newly acquired skills off to the best effect and goals being scored at both ends of the pitch. By the end of the games, all teams had achieved some success and all players were excited about playing Hockey
Many thanks go to the Young Leaders from Thomas Aveling School and for the teachers who brought their students across. Let’s hope that next year more schools will be able to participate so that even more students get the buzz for Hockey.
