Winter Disability Games at Capstone!

5 schools from across Medway today took part in the Winter Disability Games at the John Nike Ski Centre at Capstone.

The activities included skiing - for which prior tuition had been included, toboggan and snow tubing.

First Kent Panathlon Challenge

13th May 2009

Pupils from Abbeycourt School in Rainham and Strood took part in the first competition as part of the Greenacre School Sport Partnership's commitment to the Playground to Podium project. Panathlon are a national charity, working all across the Country. This is the first time they have worked with Kent and Medway and started the proceedings with an East Kent Competition held at the Sittingbourne Community College and a West Kent Competition held at Malling School. Abbeycourt, who attended the East Kent competition, took part in boccia, athletics, new age curling and polybat activities. The team had a brilliant day and managed to end the day with a collection of medals. The winners of both events will now go on to compete in a Kent final.

First GSSP Key Steps Competition

23rd April 2009

Today was the very first Key Steps Competition which ran at Lordswood Leisure Centre. Coaches picked up the 110 participants who had never taken part in an inter school competition previously. The day was a big success and everybody had fun, The teams took part in a 'Wake up and Shake up' warm up, and then moved onto 2 judged activities on vault and body management and 6 taster activities on the trampoline, rythmic gymnastics, jumping, balancing, rolling and making up a routine.

The results of the day were as follows;

KS1 - 1st, Horsted 1, 2nd Horsted 2, 3rd Oaklands 1
Schools entering; Horsted Infants, Oaklands Infant, Greenvale Infants, Lordswood Infants and St Marys Island

KS2 - 1st Luton 1, 2nd Balfour 1, 3rd Balfour 2
Schools entering; Balfour Juniors, Luton Juniors, Wayfield

Well done to everyone who was involved! Horsted Infants 1 and Luton Juniors 1 now get the chance to take part in the Kent Finals which will be held at Mote Park in Maidstone

Get Active This Easter with the Greenacre School Sport Partnership

Today was the final Easter sports camp which the Greenacre School Sport Partnership has run. We have joined forces with our local coaches and clubs to try to deliver as many activities to GSSP school pupils as possible.

Our clubs partners and coaches have been; Tony Rossitor - Sherwood Cricket Club, Craig Smith - Quick Feet Football, David Walker - Medway and Maidstone Athletics Club, Chris Nicholas, Steve Stacy - Walderslade Judo Club, Donna Andrews - Broadway Studios, Paul and Kat - Open Circle Dance Group, Adam Cook - Holcombe Hockey Club, Trevor Jeffries - Medway Rugby Club.

We had 240 attendances from GSSP pupils in total, from a range of schools.

Medway students get involved in national conference

Step into Sport Camp 2009
The Step into Sport residential Camp, titled “Your Journey, Your Impact” was held from 6th to 9th April and supported 275 young leaders (16-19 years) 32 Higher Education Institute Team Leaders, 20 National Governing Bodies and other partner organizations. The 2009 Camp video will be posted online soon on the Youth Sport Trust website. In the interim, from one of the fifteen final day aspiration sessions, please see below the “one word that sums up the camp for these young people”.
