Each School Sport Partnership selects 2 Young Ambassadors. One Young Ambassador is a Gifted & Talented Performer and the second is a committed Volunteer in PE, School and Community Sport. This year, the Greenacre School Sports Partnership Young Ambassadors are Joe Bliss, a National Athlete competing in Ice Hockey and Jack Crump, a dedicated volunteer. Both based at the Greenacre School.
The Young Ambassadors campaign is designed to show everyone just how much of a difference Young Ambassadors are making and how their work is having an impact on young people across the country and even around the world.
This year through Young Ambassador Britian we have created "YA-ing". We need all ambassadors to get involved via forming the letter 'Y and A' and sending a range photos to represent everything Young Ambassadors are about. We have put together four catergories which are designed to capture the scale and impact of their work. The catergories are: YA-ing in your community; YA-ing with a star YA-ing on mass and YA-ing to reflect the Olympics and Paralympic Values. Every term the best photograph from each catergory will be announched on the YA Britian website. Prizes will be allocated to the Young Ambassador who submits the winning photographs. You can start uploading your photographs from the 7th October 2009 onto the Young Ambassadors website.
The boys travelled up to Chelsea for the Annual Young Ambassadors Conference. Throughout the day, the two boys completed workshops on how to inspire young people and how they can become involved in school sport more. They met several Olympic and Paralympic athletes such as Christina Ohuruogu, the 400m Olympic champion, Tasha Danvers, Bronze Medallist in the 400m Hurdles, Clare Strange, Olympic Wheelchair Basketball player and Ian Wynne, Sprint Kayaking athlete.
From the conference, the aim over the next year is to inspire each Secondary school within the Greenacre School Sports Partnership to select 2 Sports Ambassadors that will represent their school. These Ambassadors will coordinate their School Sports Council and look to work with teachers and Sports Coordinators to develop initiatives and activities that young people really want. Joe and Jack will then lead on a partnership Sports Council, where all Sports Ambassadors will come together to talk about issues and good practice within their schools.
Jack and Joe are also keen to work with the partnerships Primary Schools to inspire more children to become active and participate in sport. They want to spread the word on what the Olympics and Paralympics really mean and be a real voice for young people in sport.
