By the end of year 6, according to the National Curriculum, every child should be able to;
* Pace themselves in floating and swimming challenges related to speed, distance and personal survival
* Swim unaided for a sustained period of time over a distance of at least 25m
* Use recognised arm and leg actions, lying on their front and back
* Use a range of recognised strokes and personal survival skills
To help schools achieve this target Medway Council along with the Greenacre and Howard School Sport Partnerships are working with a range of partners to ensure EVERY child can have this opportunity for the future.
Quality swim teachers...
Medway Council sports development team are providing ASA National Curriculum swim teachers courses and Royal Life Saving Society Awards for Swim Teachers and Coaches courses FREE to school staff and instructors. For more information check out the PE Courses and Events Calendar pages.
More access for schools...
Greenacre and Howard School Sport Partnership are working with Medway Leisure, Hilltop School, Oaklands School, Sir Joseph Williamson Mathematical School and St Margarets School to ensure we are accessing as much pool time as possible for schools across Medway.
A quality learning experience for pupils...
Through the School Sport Swimming Programme schools swimming at the Black Lion pool are now able to access an additional swim teacher to reduce class ratios and help improve quality. Over the next year this will be spread to other Medway Leisure pools.
